My passion for dance, music and teaching has paved the path to the formation of Upasana Kalakendra in 2008. I have taught Graduate and Post Graduate students in colleges affiliated to the University of Kerala and University of Pune before moving to USA in 2005. I also hold a degree in Education which has tremendously helped me as a dance educator. My deep interest in poetry, language and literature has led me to pursue an MA and MPhil in English Language and Literature and also a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism. I consider Dance as a discipline, rooted in the society and I am keen to explore its affinity to other disciplines including sociology, anthropology, history, literature and other allied subjects. My research focuses on the movement vocabulary of Indian classical dance after the British colonial era. My passion to delve deep into the technique and history of Indian classical dance has led me to pursue a PhD in Dance at Texas Woman’s University. During the following years I have received extensive training in Bharathanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali, Ottanthulal and Carnatic Music. I was introduced to Indian classical dance and music at the age of five.
